The Island of variety
Lombok is a neighbor island of Bali. One thing you should in Lombok is to climb on the Mount Rinjani or Gunung Rinjani. It is one of the active volcanoes of Indonesia which rises up to 3,726 m, making it the second highest volcano of Indonesia. The first historical eruption occurred in 1847 and the most recent eruption was in 2004. The 6 km by 8.5 km oval-shaped caldera is partially filled by a lake known as Segara Anak. The volcano and spectacular Segara Anak crater lake, are protected by a national park established in 1997. The highlands are forest clad and mostly underdeveloped. The lowlands are highly cultivated. Rice, soybeans, coffee, tobacco, cotton, cinnamon, and vanilla are the major crops grown in the fertile soils of the island.

The island offers also some beautiful places to relax. One of the the well known spots is Kuta. It is a village with the typical surfer flair. You can find nice restaurants and street stalls, where they offer beautiful hand made cloth bags and a lot of other souvenirs.
As already mentioned in the post about Bali please also consider the problem of rubbish in Lombok. If you want to visit Lombok please keep in mind to minimize your rubbish especially plastic. Take all your rubbish with you helping the locals to keep the view parts of the island in the same way as you wish to find it.
